Most councils in pilot assessments rated ‘good’
The Care Quality Commission has published findings from five pilot assessments assessing how well local authorities meet their duties under Part 1 of the Care Act (2014). CQC looked at nine of their quality statements to do this. The indicative ratings for Birmingham City Council, Lincolnshire County Council, Lincolnshire Council and Suffolk County Council were good. Health and Social Care Secretary speech at NHS Providers
The new Health and Social Care Secretary, Victoria Atkins, gave a speech at the NHS Providers conference on 15 November 2023 calling for collaborative working to continue to bed-in reforms government brought in to create strong and integrated care systems across England. She said the reforms will require all to work in partnership across acute hospitals, mental health, community, general practice, and pharmacy....'Our unpaid carers and social care workers look after millions of people every single day. And I cannot wait to work with them too'.
Safeguarding Adults Week 2023
Safeguarding Adults Week 2023 is from Monday, 20 November, 2023 until Friday, 24 November, 2023. Run by the Ann Craft Trust, the week aims to enable more organisations and individuals to feel confident in recognising signs of abuse and neglect and recording and reporting safeguarding concerns. To achieve this, each day of the week will focus on a different safeguarding theme and there will be resources to help individuals and organisations participate in the week. More information.

Participate in innovation research with Socrates
SOCRATES (Social Care Rapid Evaluation Team) from the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of Central Lancashire and King’s College London are asking people who work in a role related to social care to complete a survey about new processes or ways of working that their workplace has started to adopt, and people receive social care, or who support someone who does, to tell them about recent changes in the ways this care is given or managed. Chickenpox vaccination recommended for children
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has recommended to the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) that a vaccine against chickenpox should be added to the UK’s routine childhood immunisation programme. The vaccine would be offered to all children in 2 doses, at 12 and 18 months of age. JCVI has also recommended a temporary catch-up programme for older children be included in the initial rollout. The final decision will be taken by DHSC.
