Westmorland Homecare has contributed towards the cost of new kit for the Wattsfield U14 girls’ football team.

“One of the ladies who helps to run the team contacted us and asked about sponsorship and we thought it would be really good to get involved,” said Kelsey Walmsley, Westmorland Homecare’s registered care manager at Kendal.

“There is a strong ethos at the company of looking after the community and that extends to us wanting to support local community groups and teams like Wattsfield U14 girls’ football team.

“We are delighted to have been able to contribute to the cost of their new kit and wish the team well for the season.”

In their first match wearing the new shirts, shorts and socks the girls recorded a six-nil victory.

Coach Andrew Douglas said the team played nine-a-side matches in the Lancaster and Morecambe League.

“There are 14 girls in the squad and we train every Friday night and play once a week,” said Andrew.

“We have a new under 14 team comprising girls from the previous two U14 teams who have not yet moved up to the under 16 team and girls from last season’s under 12 team who have joined the higher age-group team. As a result of a new team being formed, we needed a new kit and Westmorland Homecare kindly part-sponsored that.

“The team and the parents are grateful for the support Westmorland Homecare has given us to enable us to buy this kit so the girls can continue to enjoy playing their football. It really does make a difference.”

He added: “There are a really positive group of girls. They are good, talented footballers. They love playing football whether they win or lose and they always play the game in the right spirit.”

Andrew said there was a surge of interest in women’s football at the moment. If any girls were interested in joining Wattsfield they could contact Chris Miller on 07525 733688.

Westmorland Homecare provides hundreds of hours of care each week to enable elderly and often frail people to live independently in their own home.

Its services include home care, such as help with housekeeping and meal preparation, and personal care, such as help with dressing, bathing and getting in and out of bed.
