City and County celebrates its Care Heroes
Now in it’s sixth year, the Care Heroes Awards is a firmly established celebration of the company’s care workers, the people who between them, deliver care to thousands of people across the UK.
There were big smiles, tears and much deserved cheers as the winners were announced at the awards ceremony at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham on the 4th July.
Having received over 400 nominations, the 27 shortlisted finalists were invited to the ceremony. All guests heard the heart-warming stories of why the finalists had been selected – with each and every story demonstrating the skills, immense compassion and professionalism of each person.
Max Wurr – City & County’s Director of Policy & Communications – hosted the event with flair and several members of the company’s Senior Leadership Team presented the awards for the various categories.
City & County was also honoured to have in attendance Dr Jane Townson OBE, Chief Executive Officer of the Homecare Association to present our Care Worker of the Year award.
Gary Fee, City & County’s new CEO welcomed everyone to the awards ceremony and commented,
"Today is about celebrating you, this is your day, it's all about you - our care workers. We wouldn't be able to do our jobs without you. I am honestly astounded and humbled by everything you do each and every day. You work tirelessly from morning to night delivering care to tens of thousands of people. I am amazed by what you do. Thank you."
City & County’s judging panel found it extremely difficult to decide on the winners from such an excellent and high-quality pool of nominations.
The final award of the night – Care Worker of the Year – went to Amanda Morgan.
Amanda is based in Wales and has been delivering care around the Ebbw Vale area for the last 20 years. Amanda’s nominator stated, “Amanda has made a difference to all the clients for whom she has ever provided care. She always goes above and beyond and nothing is ever too much trouble. She has a special quality and sparkle, and the most compassion and empathy I have ever known. Amanda treats clients with dignity and respect, gaining their trust and alleviating any embarrassment or anxiety that they may feel when receiving care. We are very proud to have Amanda on our team.”
On winning the award, Amanda said:
"It's an honour and a privilege to receive this award. I've just received my twenty years' service award and to get this award today is the icing on the cake. Twenty years in care and I've had happy tears and sad tears; but I wouldn't have changed any of it, I've enjoyed every moment.
I have a wonderful branch team and they are very supportive in every way - I can't thank them enough. We're all winners; it's not just about me today, it's about all care workers out in the community delivering care.”
